Here we introduce an online monitoring system for petrochemical storage tanks and oil pipelines based on a distributed fiber optic temperature measurement host. The distributed fiber optic temperature measurement host performs temperature detection on oil pipelines and storage tanks, and also monitors leakage of gas pipelines and oil tanks. It can detect leakage promptly, take countermeasures quickly and reduce losses, with significant economic and social benefits.
With the development of China's petroleum industry and the increase of crude oil and refined oil reserves, more and more large oil depots and tank farms have been built in China. In these petroleum and petrochemical industries, large oil tanks and gas holders are often densely arranged. Once an accident occurs, it will cause heavy casualties and economic losses. Temperature, as a key parameter reflecting the condition of the tank farm, directly affects the safety of people. Due to the large number of oil tanks and the many devices and valves to be controlled, with long operation time and complex procedures, initial manual operation is prone to errors and the safety of the tank farm is hard to guarantee. Therefore, a cost-effective, easy-to-use and accurate temperature monitoring system is needed. With the progress of high-precision fiber optic temperature measurement technology and the wide popularization of network applications, the application of automatic temperature monitoring systems in tank farms has become an inevitable trend of intelligent production.
Most fires are caused by excessively high temperature. Tank farms are major industrial hazard sources. Excessively high temperature of large oil tanks will cause oil evaporation, fire and even explosion, which may cause serious casualties and economic losses. The distributed fiber optic temperature sensing fire detection system can perform temperature detection before a fire occurs and issue early warnings, giving on-site operators sufficient time to take corresponding measures to prevent accidents — vital for avoiding fires — while also effectively improving the automation level of enterprise safety management.
